Recently the U.S. has been talking about actually making contact with intelligent alien life. Is this an actual legitamit issue that we should be worrying about? Is there reason to believe that there is intelligent life out there somewhere or is our country wasting time and money on something that may very well be completely pointless? I think that it is completely pointless and this idea should be put down immediately! The millions spent for this pointless project could be used for other more important issues in society.

Assisted-Suicide lawsuit
I saw this article in The New York Times and thought it would be perfect for our blog because it is exactly what we were discussing in class. The battle between federal and state laws is evident in the on going case in San Francisco. Five doctors and a cancer patient filed a suit to exempt themselves from the state ban on assisted-suicide. The court states that it violated their oath to not harm. While the lawsuit is stating that banning physician-assisted death would violate the state Constitution’s guarantee of privacy, equal protection, due process and freedom of speech. Below is the link if you want to read further. Super interesting and relevant to today's topics, it will be interesting to see who wins the case.

Social Stress and Serotonin
The article I chose is on a study relating low serotonin levels with social stress. In these findings the researchers have linked low serotonin levels to depression influenced by stressful social situations. Psychiatrists know very little about the cause or cure of depression, and in my opinion it is one of the most common problems in our country, if not the world. If these findings show that the SSRI medication currently being used is next to useless, we can find a method that is not. As stated in the documentary we watched earlier, we will never live without conflict. In some cases, it only takes one traumatic experience to ruin a persons confidence and social skills. If we can eliminate that issue, not only would the suicide rate go down, but our society would most likely be more successful. Read more HERE
Obama Care,
It's suppose to be beneficial to the uninsured, yet it seems to me that the cons outweigh the pros.
pros: Tax credits and coverage of a per-existing condition which is suppose to save you money, but only if you qualify for financial assistance. However, families that qualify for financial assistance might have to repay a portion of the cost that they received during the year if they reported less and actually made more money than indicated because of course we can only estimate our earnings. There is a penalty depending on how much make the previous year such as 95$ or 1% which ever is greater for the first year and will increase next year for 2015 to 2% or $325 for not having insurance (I'm sure this will increase yearly).
cons: higher costs to the insured/insuree, less jobs because small businesses will have to pay more to get employees covered, higher copays, and just costing more money than before Obama Care.
In my own opinion I think the penalty is less than one would pay if they had insurance coverage ex. for a single person in excellent health it could cost around $90-$100 a month and this is not including deductibles, out of pocket costs, and copay's, so if you calculate 90 x 12 = $1080 plus fees, therefore I would pay the penalty.
