Social Stress and Serotonin

The article I chose is on a study relating low serotonin levels with social stress. In these findings the researchers have linked low serotonin levels to depression influenced by stressful social situations. Psychiatrists know very little about the cause or cure of depression, and in my opinion it is one of the most common problems in our country, if not the world. If these findings show that the SSRI medication currently being used is next to useless, we can find a method that is not. As stated in the documentary we watched earlier, we will never live without conflict. In some cases, it only takes one traumatic experience to ruin a persons confidence and social skills. If we can eliminate that issue, not only would the suicide rate go down, but our society would most likely be more successful. Read more HERE

There are several different SSRI medications to control the serotonin deficiency. Prozac is the most common one doctors prescribe, but I think the more severe the condition the stronger the medication is. Hopefully they come to a conclusion and find out whats can be used in such cases.

I agree we should continue to look for methods to help with serotonin deficiency. Some medications that are useful to one person can be completely useless to the next. Hopefully with more research comes better medications to fight depression & help our society become more productive & successful.

There are many things that cause depression it's just a natural human thing. Many of us go through depression it just depends on the person, and how they handle that depression. It varies on the person but I do agree that it is a huge problem that Psychiatrists know very little about depression. There are several medications out there to help with depression Prozac being the most common but from my experience Prozac never really helped with depression before hopefully with more studies they are able to find better medication for individuals that suffer from depression.
